On August 10, 2025, Mexico City International Airport (MEX) suspended all flight operations due to heavy rainfall causing severe flooding and reduced visibility. 

Airport authorities announced a three-hour suspension of landings and takeoffs to clear rainwater and restore safe operational conditions.The heavy rain, which struck in the afternoon, led to significant disruptions, with Flightradar24 reporting 66 diverted flights. Notable diversions included an American Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 from New York's JFK, rerouted to Dallas Fort Worth (DFW), and an Aeromexico 737 MAX 9 from Orlando (MCO), diverted to Cancun (CUN).

The airport urged passengers to check with their airlines for updates. By overnight, operations resumed normally as conditions improved.Local reports indicated up to 50 centimeters of rainfall in parts of Mexico City, prompting a purple alert, the highest warning level, for residents.
