LOT Polish Airlines Orders 40 A220s
LOT Polish Airlines has confirmed a purchase agreement with Airbus for 20 A220-100 and 20 A220-300 aircraft to enhance its regional operations, marking the airline's first selection of Airbus for fleet upgrades.
The agreement was unveiled at the Paris Air Show, with potential for expansion to up to 84 A220 aircraft in the coming years.
The A220s will progressively replace LOT's current regional fleet, enabling new route opportunities and destinations due to the aircraft's advanced capabilities.
LOT's existing regional fleet consists of older Embraer jets, including 20 ERJ-170s and 24 ERJ-190s, with average ages of 17 and 13 years, respectively.
"This decision shapes our future. The Airbus A220 family, set to join our fleet from 2027, unlocks new avenues for expansion and growth—core elements of our vision," said Michał Fijoł, LOT's Executive Officer.
"These state-of-the-art, efficient, and passenger-centric aircraft will empower us to compete strongly across Europe, solidify our standing as the top airline in Central and Eastern Europe, and position LOT as a key player at the Central Communication Port."
Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Airbus EVP Sales, Commercial Aircraft, described the order as a "significant milestone."
"The A220 Family will play a pivotal role in LOT's fleet renewal and network growth, with the A220-100 and A220-300 perfectly suited to their requirements. We are eager to collaborate closely with LOT, utilizing Airbus' global expertise to support its modernization efforts and ensure smooth integration of the A220," he added.
