In 2026, Iberia Airlines continues to pursue a clear strategy of international expansion, strengthening its position as a bridge between Europe and the Americas. The airline has launched new transatlantic routes, including Madrid–Newark with daily flights, Madrid–Toronto with five weekly frequencies, and Madrid–Monterrey with three weekly flights, expanding its presence in North and Latin America. These openings aim to meet growing demand from leisure and business travellers and to consolidate Iberia's network in strategic markets.

In Latin America, Iberia remains a leader in connectivity, offering more than 5.5 million seats in 2025, achieving capacity records and increasing frequencies to key destinations such as Santiago de Chile, Lima, and Santo Domingo. This growth is supported by more efficient, longer-range aircraft, such as the Airbus A321XLR, allowing the network to expand sustainably. However, the airline faces geopolitical and operational challenges. The suspension of flights to Venezuela due to safety alerts has affected its South American network, highlighting how external factors can impact operations.

During peak travel periods, such as Christmas 2025–2026, Iberia operated more than 11,500 flights with nearly 1.9 million seats, managing intense passenger traffic. Iberia has also made progress in digitalization and passenger experience, introducing real-time updating boarding passes through its app and mobile services.

Despite these improvements, there remain criticisms regarding baggage handling and customer service, indicating areas for further enhancement. In conclusion, Iberia is consolidating itself as an airline with international growth, a strong presence in the Americas, and technological improvements, while facing security and service quality challenges. Its future success will depend on balancing expansion, operational efficiency, and passenger experience.
