Etihad Airways, a national carrier of the United Arab Emirates, and Spain's Air Europa have marked a significant milestone with Air Europa's first wet-lease flight from Abu Dhabi to Madrid, its inaugural service from the Middle East. Operated using a Boeing 787-9, this flight strengthens the partnership between the two airlines, building on their existing code-sharing agreement and aligned frequent-flyer programs. The collaboration enhances global connectivity, offering seamless travel options across four continents.
Etihad now provides two daily flights to Madrid, with its afternoon EY103 service operated by Air Europa's Boeing 787-9, featuring 307 Economy and 32 Business Class seats. The wet-lease and code-sharing agreements bolster the growing UAE-Spain market, fostering increased tourism and trade opportunities between the two nations.
Antonoaldo Neves, CEO of Etihad Airways, emphasized the partnership's value: "This collaboration with Air Europa enhances our Madrid route, offering greater choice for travelers between the UAE and Spain. It opens exciting possibilities for passengers exploring new destinations.
"Juan José Hidalgo, President of Air Europa, echoed this sentiment: "Launching our first Middle East service from Abu Dhabi with Etihad is a major milestone. It meets rising demand for travel between Spain and the UAE, with Abu Dhabi serving as an ideal hub for expanding into new markets."
This strategic alliance not only strengthens connectivity but also positions both airlines to capitalize on the growing travel demand between their respective regions, providing passengers with enhanced flexibility and access to a broader network of destinations.
