On Saturday, over 300 flights at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA), India's largest airport handling 1,300 daily flights, faced delays due to heavy rainfall across the capital. No diversions were reported, but some cancellations occurred, with average departure delays around 17 minutes.
IndiGo announced on X that heavy rain caused temporary schedule disruptions, advising passengers to account for delays and slower traffic. Air India also warned of potential impacts on Delhi flight operations. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert early Saturday for heavy rain, lightning, and thunderstorms in multiple Delhi regions, later downgrading it to yellow, urging caution.
Rainfall measurements by 8:30 am included 78.7 mm at Safdarjung, 100 mm at Pragati Maidan, 80 mm at Lodhi Road, 69 mm at Pusa, and 31.8 mm at Palam, according to the IMD. The adverse weather significantly disrupted flight schedules, but airlines monitored the situation to minimize delays
