The tie-up between the Star Wars movie franchise and All Nippon Airways will come to an end in March 2026, the airline announced in a statement on August 4, 2025. As a result of this, one of Ana's most iconic liveries, alluding to the popular R2-D2 robot, which is painted on the fuselage of a Boeing 787-9 aircraft (registration JA873A), flew for the last time today August 6, 2025.
The last flight of an R2-D2-liveried Ana jet, NH101 from Washington-Dulles to Tokyo-Haneda, is expected to took off at 12.15 local time. This association between Ana and the popular science fiction saga began in 2015 and the Japanese carrier has since painted several of its aircraft with Star Wars elements. As of 2025, Ana operates two jets with Star Wars-themed liveries.
The other movie-themed jet operated by Ana is the so-called "C-3PO Ana JET", a Boeing 777-200 painted in yellow hues and featuring other visual elements that allude to the popular character from the Star Wars movies. In 2016, Ana added a third jet with a livery dedicated to a Star Wars character.
However, JA789A, a B777 300 with a BB 8 theme, another robot that appears in the movie series, was retired in 2022.
